Location

The small coastal village of Llangrannog, today a great attraction for summer visitors, is located at the mouth of two small rivulets  the Hawen and Nant  Eisteddfa that run to the sea in deep gorge like valleys.

Throughout  its long history the sea has always been the all important element in the development of the village and it has always dominated the life of its inhabitants.

Sharply rising, bracken and gorse-clad hills rise steeply on both flanks of the village and in history they had the effect of obstructing the inhabitants' view of the land, cutting down to a minimum the social contacts between the village and the agricultural communities in its hinterland.

Whether one speaks of the foundation of Llangrannog by a sea travelling Celtic saint in the sixth century or whether one is discussing its attractions to a holidaying public, the sea has always been the most important element in its life.

As recently as 1900 almost every male inhabitant of Llangrannog was associated with seafaring, either as sailors or as merchants associated with the import and sale of sea borne goods.
